JustOne Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization based in Greensboro, North Carolina, primarily serving families living on Greensboro’s east side. Our founder and Executive Director, Justin Washington, works with a five-member Board of Directors to manage the foundation.
Since our first Easter egg hunt in 2016—JustOne Foundation has organized dozens of family-friendly events, including more Easter egg hunts, pro wrestling matches, custom car shows, engineering camps for kids and a community fair for non-profits. We also sponsor a children’s baseball team and, as ongoing service projects, maintain a community garden and help maintain the veterans’ section of Maplewood Cemetery.
As diverse and seemingly unrelated as the foundation’s activities may appear, they have one thing in common: Each program and event supports our mission to provide safe, affordable and fun activities that encourage families to spend quality time together while enriching their lives and broadening their horizons.
We start by planning events to encourage families to get out of their houses, showing them a good time and giving them a chance to get to know their neighbors and the resources available in their community. Longer term, we hope to introduce east Greensboro residents to other parts of the city—and to introduce people living in other parts of Greensboro to them.
As for results, so far we’re seeing a growing number of families having fun together at our events. We’re seeing neighbors interacting and becoming friends. We’re exposing kids and their parents to hands-on, real-world experiences they wouldn’t otherwise have.
Most important, we’re seeing smiles! Lots and lots of smiles! People are having fun, and we are making a difference in our community.
